Revisiting My Collection: Liners
I mentioned HERE that I was going to go through my collection piece by piece. Here's the first installment! By doing this, I'm hoping to achieve the following:
- Identify any products that need to be purged.
- Appreciate what I already have rather than always looking for the new.
- Identify holes in my collection or products/colors I feel I'm missing. I know this one seems completely the opposite of what I'm trying to achieve (as mentioned in THIS post), but the reasoning here is that if I have enough to choose from then I won't be as tempted.
Ok!! So let's look at all my liners!!
***All products purchased by me or received as a GWP. Links are non-affiliate. This is not a sponsored post.***
I don't have that many liners so I'm lumping liquid liners into this post. Here's the current situation:
Liquid
- Kevyn Aucoin The Precision Liquid Liner
- Shu Uemura Calligraph Ink Liquid Eyeliner Pen
Pencil
- Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Th(Ink)
- Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Brown (Out) - sample size
- Tom Ford Eye Defining Pencil in Espresso
- Armani Waterproof Smooth Silk Eye Pencil #2
- Pop Beauty Kajal Pen in Sooty Black (never opened, received as GWP)
- NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto - sample size (never used)
- Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Jet - sample size (never used)
I've noted sample sizes and whether or not I've used the liners because I think that's good information to have for potential purging purposes.
These are my most used liners, and I 'most used' I say lightly because I can't remember the last time I used liner???
- Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Th(Ink) - Absolutely love this color!! And despite the fact that the liner fell out of the packaging, it's still usable and still very smooth.
- Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Brown (Out) - sample size - I really like this color, but I've only used it a few times because the glitter/shimmer in it irritates my eyes. I'm thinking this one should get the boot.
- Tom Ford Eye Defining Pencil in Espresso - Not as creamy and smooth as the other 3, as I'd consider it more a traditional pencil liner. But I love the true espresso color, and I prefer it over a true black liner because it doesn't look as harsh.
- Armani Waterproof Smooth Silk Eye Pencil #2 - I think for texture this is my favorite of the bunch. It really is SO smooth, and it's very easy to smudge out. And I love that the color isn't a true brown or bronze...it's almost a smokey espresso??
And here are the swatches!!
As for the other pencils:
- Pop Beauty Kajal Pen in Sooty Black (never opened, received as GWP) - This is a full size and I'm sure I'll never get through. And since I've never used it, I think I'll go ahead and purge this one so it goes to a better home.
- NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto - sample size (never used)
- Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Jet - sample size (never used)
I don't really use black pencil liner, but I'd still like to have one on hand. I'll go ahead and purge either the NARS or the Bobbi Brown, but I'm not sure which one since I've never used them. Do you guys have any thoughts or preference out of the 2?? Which one should I keep?
Liquid liner thoughts:
- Kevyn Aucoin The Precision Liquid Liner - Very easy to use with smooth application. Doesn't seem to last quite as long as the Shu, but it's a true ink black vs. the Shu that's not as dark.
- Shu Uemura Calligraph Ink Liquid Eyeliner Pen - Lasts longer with no creasing/flaking than the KA, but it doesn't have that same strong, rich color. Contemplating purging this one, but again the wear time makes me think twice. Maybe I'll just keep this one to practice with??
Despite my love for some of the colors I've often contemplated getting rid this whole category in my collection. As I said earlier, I can't even remember the last time I wore liner?!!! It's been moooooonths.
So why don't I do it??? Because it's that little nagging voice in the back of my head that tells me I want to play around with my makeup more, when in reality that rarely happens. But it's those rare occasions that keeps me tied to trying to maintain a 'well rounded' collection - meaning a collection with a variety of colors...you know...just in case ha ha!
But for now, purging 3 out of the lot is at least some progress!!! How about you - how edited is your liner collection??
