Tom Ford Fall 2015: Illuminating Powder in Translucent Pink, Complexion Enhancing Primer in Pink Glow & Peach Glow

I have mixed feelings about both of these products. Neither is a complete love, nor a complete dislike...

Tom Ford Fall 2015: Illuminating Powder In Translucent Pink, Complexion Enhancing Primer In Pink Glow & Peach Glow - gummyvision.com

Tom Ford Illuminating Powder in Translucent Pink, $77/.21oz

Despite the name, I don't find this powder to be illuminating at all. I find it actually has a natural matte finish, and both the Dior Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Powder and Chanel Les Beiges powders I love give me more luminosity. The finish isn't flat matte though, so I do like to use it down the center of my face where I'm the oiliest - looks natural no matter how much I apply or use to retouch. However, when used over the rest of my face it dulls the finish of whatever else I've applied. Really strange considering this is supposed to 'ensure a natural, even and luminous finish'. Maybe come Fall I will like this more?

I never tried the original Translucent Powder, so I'm not sure how it compares. Is there anyone out there who has tried both?

What I love about this primer:

  • It makes the large pores by the sides of my nose pretty much disappear, without looking like there's any product covering them up. This is unlike other products I've tried where I can see the product actually in my pores and filling them in (once foundation is applied it just looks like skin, but with no foundation it looks like I've applied spackle).
  • It makes my foundation last longer than any primer I can remember -  ones I've been using lately are Hourglass Mineral Veil, Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel, CoverFX Illuminating Primer. The main thing here is that my foundation doesn't separate around my oily areas, even after 10+ hours.
  • I do find this somewhat hydrating, but it's more along the lines of a very light serum. Which is great though - with a primer I wouldn't want it to be overly moisturizing because while I do appreciate that this primer is meant to have skincare benefits, I also don't want it competing with skincare I've already applied.

What I'm meh about this primer:

  • It does blur a little, but it's so little that sometimes I wonder if it actually does blur or if it's my mind playing tricks because I REALLY want to see it. Know what I mean?!
  • I don't think this minimizes discoloration at all, and I'm not sure it lessens the appearance of redness either.
  • Though the description doesn't actually say this is illuminating, with names like Pink Glow & Peach Glow I was kind of expecting the primers to make my skin look more luminous and bright. I don't find it does either.

The SA was kind enough to give me samples of both the Pink Glow & Peach Glow, even though I purchased Pink Glow at the time. Pink Glow is the right color for me...doesn't compete with my undertones at all, and really just melts into the skin and I don't notice the color. Peach Glow, however, is a tad too dark. It's not way different once blended in, but it is enough color variation that Pink is a much better fit. If you are of a medium complexion I think you could use either one, but if you are on the darker end of the medium spectrum or darker you'll probably prefer the Peach Glow.

***Edit: Forgot to add that the original TF primer has a pretty strong fragrance that I didn't care for. This has slight smell, but I find it hard to detect and I don't notice it once on my face. Also forgot to mention that this primer feels really nice going on, and it does feel more like a skincare product rather than a silicone-filled, slippy primer.***

Ingredients for both products below (I only purchased the Complexion Enhancing Primer in Pink Glow, so that's the ingredient list shown, but I'd assume it's almost the same for Peach Glow except for differences in added dyes):
