Kevyn Aucoin The Eye Kit, Part I - The Eyelash Curler, The Volume Mascara, The Precision Brow Pencil

Sometime in December, SpaceNK had a mighty big sale where much of the merchandise was 50% off! There were a ton of things I wanted, but finally decided to be sensible and settled one item. Ok, ha ha gotcha!!! One item, but it was a kit and contained multiple items inside!

***All items purchased by me. Affiliate links included.***

Meet the Kevyn Aucoin Eye Kit..

It's a pretty sizable box, that comes with a large mirror packaged on the inside lid. Not the greatest quality mirror, but definitely helpful in a bind.

The enclosed eye look card...

Getting closer to what's inside...

And voila!! I was able to purchase the kit for around $50, and I've seen full price range from $95-105 full price. It's not available at SpaceNK anymore, but you can still purchase at Barneys (hello Love Yourself Event!!), Beauty.com and Neiman Marcus. My set came with the Aubergine shadow, but it seems the sets either come with Aubergine or Whisper. The Mascara alone is $28, so I was extremely happy to  get the kit on sale. Even at $105 it's like getting one of the products free :-) Here are the kit contents and full prices:

The Eyelash Curler, $21

The Volume Mascara in Black, $28

The Eye Pencil in Black, $26

The Precision Brow Pencil in Brunette, $26

The Essential Eyeshadow Single in Aubergine, $28

A lot of my posts like this tend to be long, so for a change I thought I'd break it up. This first part will focus on The Eyelash Curler, The Volume Mascara and The Precision Brow Pencil

Kevyn Aucoin The Eyelash Curler

This is only the 4th lash curler I've tried, but it's the best one so far!! The first one I tried was the infamous Shu Uemura, next was Sephora's brand and the last before KA was Shiseido. I didn't care for Sephora's at all, the shape seemed all wrong for my eyes. Shu was absolutely better than Sephora's, but it's been so long I can't remember why I never bought it again?? I'm almost 40 - gimme a break, ok?!! LOL!

I really like Shiseido's curler because it seems to curl the most lashes in one fell swoop, but sometimes it seems kinda pinchy and I end up not using it that much because I don't want to deal with the pinch. The first time I tried Kevyn Aucoin's The Eyelash Curler, I braced myself for what I imagined to be inevitable discomfort of some kind.

Uuuummmm…hello, my dear!!! I could not believe how comfortable the KA curler was, and still is!! It's feels uber cushioned and most importantly doesn't pinch. It doesn't get my lashes in one fell swoop, but I don't care because it's so comfortable I feel like I could curl my lashes all day!!

For comparison, here is the KA (top) vs. the Shiseido (bottom). From the side they don't look that different.

Here's where they differ in shape. The KA (left) is more curved, which is why it won't curl all of my Asian shaped lashes in one go. The Shiseido (right) is better suited for that.

Here's the biggest difference in comfort for me…look at all that cushion on the KA (left)!!! I'm really loving this curler and will absolutely keep it on hand until something as comfortable, but maybe better suited to my eye shape comes along.

The Volume Mascara

My Go To mascara before trying KA was the original one from Blinc. It was the one I relied on because it was the only one I found that didn't smudge or flake against my oily monolids. It really did nothing except to make my lashes a bit darker, so I've actually not been wearing mascara for many months because I didn't feel it really made a difference. Until KA happened.

The packaging is slim, sleek and sexy. It's a slightly heavier metal tube that makes me feel I'm getting my $$'s worth. The wand is also very slim, and I find it easy to work with.

Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara does more than merely coat my lashes in black. It also adds volume and length. This doesn't give me butterfly lashes or anything, but it makes me feel the effort is worthwhile because I do notice a difference!

Does it hold a curl?? Not exactly, but it does something nothing else has been able to do against my stick straight, downward pointing lashes…it almost holds a curl, to the point where after curling and subsequent mascara application my lashes are mainly perpendicular & oh so slightly curved up rather than straight down. It may not sound like much, but seriously it's a feat that I've not yet been able to achieve with about 1/2 the mascaras at Sephora. So I'd imagine on most, non-stubborn lashes it would hold a curl? At any rate, call me one happy camper :-)  KA makes an actual Curling Mascara, so I'm excited to try that one too!

Kevyn Aucoin The Precision Brow Pencil

This is an always sharp mechanical pencil that twists up from the bottom. It has no lid, which seems a bit odd but in a way it's nice because you don't have to worry about misplacing the cap. But because it has no cap you also have to make sure to twist it back down after every use. The opposite end of the pencil houses a capped spoolie. Again, slim and sexy packaging, just like the rest of the KA line!

This is one tiny, very precise pencil that's been really wonderful for filling in my sparse areas. I'm not one for bold brows, so I don't draw my brows on…I only fill in a few areas. This is perfect for creating tiny little strokes. The brunette color I wasn't too sure about at first because it's a bit lighter (and maybe slightly ashy?)  than I'm used to. But I'm grown to prefer it over the MUFE one I used for how well it blends and how natural it looks. The above pic shows a single stroke on the left, and multiple on the right to show the color better.

So far, I couldn't be happier with the Kevyn Aucoin Eye Kit, and have found 3 products I can rely on!! Hopefully the last 2 are just as great!!
