Another One Bites The Dust!! Review: Avene Micellar Lotion
Avene Micellar Lotion, $19/6.76oz @ drugstore.com,skinstore.com.
This is a very reasonable price for a cleansing water in the US, so I was anxious to try it. I prefer to remove all my makeup before doing my normal cleansing routine - I have tried a multitude of cleansing towelettes/cloths, but feel they are a bit harsher on my skin than I would like. Even though I don't wear makeup everyday, I do want to find something that is gentle yet effective - exactly what micellar waters are purported to be!!
I've tried Bioderma Crealine, Caudalie Cleansing Water, this Avene Micellar Lotion and Koh Gen Doh Cleansing Water (review forthcoming!!). Bioderma is very gentle and super effective, but clogged my pores so I'll only use it around my eyes. Caudalie clogged my pores and gave me milia. Koh Gen Doh I think I might love, but have only been using it for a very short time and therefore don't feel I have given it enough time to review properly. Now Avene...
Oh, dear...the smell. I can't stand it!! I've used Avene products before, but they have always been fragrance free. This Avene smell is just too perfume-y and can only be compared to the cheapie free lotions you get sometimes in hotels.
As for the effectiveness? I found this very gentle, but too gentle to be effective. I did a test several times and ran toner on my face right after using this Micellar Lotion. Each and every time I still had residual makeup leftover! Not so fantastic as a full faced makeup remover (sunscreen, foundation and the works). However, if you are someone who wears either no makeup or minimal makeup (only powder and blush, for example) it might be fine. Good news is this did not clog my pores :-)
So yes...my third micellar water bites the dust and I do not plan on buying this again!
