Review: By Terry Baume de Rose SPF15

By Terry Baume de Rose SPF15, $59 for .35oz @ beauty.comus.spacenk.combarneys.combirchbox.com. Also available in a tubefor $53.

I got a free puppy with purchase!! Ha ha :-) Just kidding. Luckily I didn't have to purchase this bad boy and instead put it on my birthday list back in March. I've been wanting to try this for a long time...I mean...cult product...models and actresses - oh, my - all adore it...so there's got to be something to this potion in a little jar!

I don't know if I'm embarrassed to admit it or not, but the jar is pretty to look at. It's hefty glass for the size, and to the eye and touch it definitely feels like you are getting a little slice of luxury.

The consistency is between a potted gloss and Aquaphor, with a really soft texture that glides easily on the lips. I don't find this goopy or sticky...but it is slightly tacky when touching it with your fingers.

This is with a thick layer.

This is sheered out.

This adds a subtle sheen, but is not glossy nor greasy. It's one of those your-lips-but-better products and the slight baby pink color seems to tone down my pigmented lips just a bit. When left on overnight, my lips feel amazingly soft come morning which also makes a great canvas for applying lip color.

Baume de Rose can be used on the cuticles too. It makes my cuticles very soft and pliable and I found the best overnight treatment is to first apply a cuticle oil and layer this on top. Talk about a fantastic treat!!

My only negative is I find the rose scent very strong. Now I love rose fragrance as much as the next person, but it just never seems to fade. I wouldn't mind the scent for a bit, but hour after hour? Ew. No, thanks. I'm not sure what it is, but this particular rose fragrance just doesn't agree with me...especially not right under my nose!

Will I purchase another jar? No. It is a very nice little product, but I don't find it more effective than my trusty Aquaphor. Plus I love Aquaphor for a whole lot more than a lip balm and cuticles. Baume de Rose also contains capric/caprylic triglycerides which clog me to no end. It seems to be ok just on my lips, but I'm paranoid with long-term use it'll start to give me clogs around the edges.

That said, if you are a beauty junkie I think it's one of those must-try items you will always be curious about if you don't test for yourself :-)
