Recap: May 2015
Thought I'd start doing a monthly recap to let you know what's been going on in beauty and general life! Not sure if I'll get to it every month, but thought May was a good time to start since there were some products I tried that won't get their own proper review post (or it won't come for a bit) and I wanted to mention them somewhere.
But first up...can we talk green smoothies?!!
Uuuuuuh, Gummy...that smoothie isn't green!!! Ok, perhaps not green in color, but it's got mostly green (in color) ingredients! This is the smoothie I've been drinking pretty regularly throughout the month - I love it, but am interested in seeing what favorite green smoothie recipes you might have??
This one contains: spinach, blueberries, green apple, cucumber, avocado, honey and lemon :-)
Onto beauty things!!!
I bought a couple colors of the Burberry Lip & Cheek Blooms. They applied really nicely on the cheeks, and the color could be built up a bit. However, they almost completely disappeared after a few hours. I thought these felt pretty terrible on the lips...very silicone-y but with a weird, light waxy feel?? My lips looked like I had lipstick on, wiped it off, but still had a hint of color left. Not a bad look when I think about it, but in person my lips looked undone and not nourished. Even a slap of lip balm looked better. Those got promptly returned.
I ordered these Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes...
And they are getting purged already!! Two of them required at least 3 coats, and that only got me to semi-opacity. I don't mind a sheer polish with a nude color, but anything else and I don't want to see my nails poking through, not to mention how much longer 3+ coats takes to dry! The shimmery neutral one of the bunch, Bicicletta, was kinda pretty but...eh...I didn't love it. Big bummer because I really loved the other 2 colors!!
I've been playing with the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerize Cream Shadows. I bought 3 colors - Bette, Norma Jean, Veruschka - and at first I wasn't sure I liked them. When I applied them too sheer on the oiliest part of my lid, the color wore off and ended up kinda patchy by the end of the day. But if I add a little bit more where my lid is the most oily, or layer colors they last all day (with a primer of course!). And these do layer beautifully!! I'll get swatches up sometime in June...and I might add another color - Mona Lisa - to the mix!
Oh, and I'm continually adding to my purge pile, a few pieces at a time. Finally got around to tackling the sample pile and made a little progress there. I need to go through brushes next, and then I'll make another sweep through the stash and then I'll probably be ready for a blog sale!
After random rashes and crazy itchiness, have finally figured out that baking soda in natural deodorants is not good for me! So I'm on the hunt for an effective non-aluminum deodorant with no baking soda. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!
He was doing really well when we had him inside, but we had to give him a change of scenery when the bug infestation happened. Ok, that's an exaggeration ha ha!! But we did start getting little gnats or something when he arrived and got tired of trying to smack them, so outside Chapstick went. He did ok for a bit, but the weather is steadily getting warmer and he does NOT like that. At all!!! I'm afraid we'll have to add him to the list of other defunct green thumb projects, because even after watering he'll perk up for like 1/2 a day and then get all sad again. *sigh*
Unlike Chapstick, I've really been loving the warmer weather! I've been Pinning patio plant and decor ideas to get some inspiration to spruce up our patio...
We have a small patio, so I'm not sure how much of this 'inspiration' will actually fit ha ha!! I guess the main thing is I'd like to have some kind of simple seating + small table, and some hearty plants that will survive the Texas heat and not require a ton of care. I'd love to get some kind of potted tree out there too??? Will probably just end up with a bunch of cacti, but being Texas and all I suppose that's fitting LOL!
The Mr. has a couple of Man trips potentially planned for the Summer, but not sure we'll be taking a vacation together. That's ok though, to be honest I really enjoy staying at home! Plus, 2 of my siblings are home for the Summer with internships so we are trying to spend time with them since we don't see them much during the school year. Do you have a Summer vacation planned??
