Recap: May 2016
One of my amazing friends went to Europe in May, and she offered to bring back whatever beauty bits I wanted!!! I was SO excited and the first thing I thought of was SEROZINC!!! Second on my list was my favorite sunscreen, along with a couple of new ones to try (including a tinted one). She had her eye on some Bourjois items, so I thought it would be a good time to try their Rouge Edition Velvets, which all the UK girls I watch on YouTube seem to have loved or mentioned at one point or another.

Of course, I had trouble deciding on colors and ended up getting way more than necessary ha ha!! My favorite colors are pictured above, L-R: Grand Cru, Ole Flamingo, Plum Plum Girl and Nude-ist. I really like these a lot. I wouldn't say I love them, but they are probably the most comfortable liquid type lipsticks I've tried so far. What I like the most is that they don't dry my lips out at all, nor do they emphasize all the lines and crevices in my lips like other liquid lipstick. They aren't super moisturizing, but they provide enough moisture to be comfortable for most of the day. If they were very moisturizing that would probably turn my like into love :-)
The Bourgeois Rouge Edition Velvets have a hint of cushion and do feel a little like velvet! For the price I think they are worth trying out. I'll have some swatches up later in the month.
Unfortunately the Serozinc didn't work out and caused clogs and little irritation bumps. I can't even tell you how disappointed I was (AND STILL AM!!!!! -_-)...I mean...I've had it on my list FOREVER and EVER. Oh, and ever. And have always been so jealous of people that have it readily available to purchase. Seriously, I'm not sure I'll recover from that anytime soon. SIGH.
On a positive note!! If you are in the US and haven't been able to find Serozinc, my Snapchat friend said it's finally available on the La Roche-Posay US site, HERE. It's $14.99 for 5.2oz.

See below for one of the most entertaining beauty videos I've seen this month...
I think I've watched this a dozen times! Some of my favorite lines:
"I'll hold 2 cold spoons dipped in [I don't know how to spell what she says ha ha - lapsang sushong???] over my eyes."
"...fossilized blue-green algae body scrub."
"I can't remember the last time I washed my hair. It basically cleans itself now."
"I always use a small batch placenta-infused facial toner for that third trimester glow, without the cravings."
LOL it's a funny reminder of how crazy some of the names and claims of beauty products can be...not to mention how ridiculously long some of the product names are!

When I read tips on how to make your manicure last, one of the things always mentioned is to paint the tips of your nails to help prevent chips and whatnot. I keep my nails really short, so anytime I've tried to do this it ends up a mess that's not worth the cleanup hassle. Then I had an idea...what if I painted the tips with my base coat instead of color??? I figured worst case, at least there wouldn't be any cleanup??
Guess what - it definitely helps!! I haven't had a chip since, and tip wear is a lot less. It extends my manicure for at least a couple more days. Win!!

Ok, so I'm in one of my phases where I'm not lusting after anything. I keep looking at my wish lists, and nothing on those is even screaming out to me. So weird!! I was wondering what you guys are lemming at the moment, or what are your favorites??? AKA is there anything you think I might like and need to try out???!!! Help me, please!! Ha ha!

On a non-beauty note, the last couple of nights I've been watching Michael Pollan's 4-part documentary on Netflix called Cooked. It's really good so far, and in a funny way so far it makes me think about more than just food - that in general we need to slow down appreciate what we have, where we came from and to just slow down and savor everything, even the most simple task. Here's the trailer in case you're interested...
My younger siblings all graduated in May and we had a Texas-style luau to celebrate (BBQ & kalua pig!!). Several relatives from California joined in the celebration, and my Auntie and cousins sang and also danced the Hula. It was fun and the food was SOOOOOO good!!!
It's rare that all 6 of the kids are together, so thought I would share a pic from the party day! L-R, with the kids in birth order: Robert - Dad, Rebecca - Stepmom, Me, Taeman, Kekoa, Sean, Tyler, Ashley.

Oh, I almost forgot the most exciting beauty news of this month!!! My niece, Miqa, is getting into makeup now!!! She had her birthday earlier in the month and went to a MAC store to get some goodies with her birthday money. She told Mr. G & I all about it over belated birthday dinner celebration, and I was almost jumping out of my skin I was so excited LOL! The best part was to see how her eyes lit up talking about it! I never thought she would get into makeup, and now I have a new beauty buddy!!! YAY!!!
After dinner, she came over and I gave her a bunch of stuff from the purge pile. We also did her makeup using some of what I gave her and stuff from my personal stash - she LOVES the glow!! We used luminizer, HG Ambient Lighting Powder, highlighter, oh, more highlighter and shimmery shadow. She said she loved the look (especially the glow ha ha!), and was just so excited about everything - can't even tell you how fun it was!!!
Here's a Snap she sent the day after, with a look she created...
I love it!! Can't wait to see what else she comes up with, and to see where else her makeup journey takes her :-)
That's about it! How has your May been???
