Chanel Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour in 50 Deep Purple

Chanel Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour in 50 Deep Purple

As Fall was approaching, I was on the hunt for dark lip colors to wear. I didn't want berry colors necessarily, but more vampy and uber dark, deep colors. This Chanel one looked like it might fit the bill!

One end contains a stain, and the other end a gloss. You can wear the stain alone, but it's not remotely comfortable because it's so drying. I'm talking, I can feel my lips throbbing because every ounce of moisture is being sucked out, kind of drying. The gloss on the opposite end provides some relief, but I find it's better to wear a really good lip balm or very moisturizing gloss on top instead. Even then, it's a bit of a battle getting through the day without wanting to remove it all.

There is some shimmer in this, but I don't find it translates much once applied. During application of the stain, I can sheer out the color a little or really build it up into some vampy goodness. The color is beautiful and rich - it's best to apply in thin layers and be sure to let each layer dry before applying another, otherwise the color will be uneven. And if I apply unevenly, then it also wears off unevenly.

As long as I get a good solid base, this stain (even with the gloss/balm topper) doesn't mess around. It lasts pretty much all day with very minimal reapplication, and actually no reapplication if I've applied it evenly in the first place! However, this means it's also difficult to remove. My oil cleansers don't take it off completely, and I have to use Tom Ford Makeup Remover. I highly recommend using some sort of bi-phase makeup remover to take this off.

This last picture I left big on purpose (if you are on a mobile device or small computer, you can click to enlarge the image). Check out the 2 bottom swatches that are without gloss. See how there's not a lick of moisture to be found???

Color and wear time I was really impressed with, but the severe dryness is a deal breaker for me. Love the idea, but feel it could have been better formulated.

Do you have any of the Chanel Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colours? Are other colors as drying as this one??
